Laughing chicken and totally delicious creamy pesto sauce

This week, Peter gave Sadie a bath for the first time (his first time not hers).
It was real cute.
Sadie has figured out how to splash with her feet. It's time to move the bathtub from the kitchen sink to the bathroom now I guess.

During tummy time, Sadie decided sucking her thumb is more fun than actually trying to push up and roll over. She pushes up and kicks around for a bit then lays down and sucks, then repeats the process.

I've caught our little chicken chewing her gums like an old man a few times. At first I thought there was something in her mouth then I realized she's just rubbing those gums together!

They say babies aren't supposed to watch TV or computer screens until at least age 2.
Sometimes if we're watching a movie or doing something on the computer we'll either turn her away or have her chair facing the opposite direction.
This works only for a few minutes. She's become real good and rubbernecking the screen.
Sadie has also figured out how to look up. This is exciting because now she can see who's carrying her!

We've also started trying to give her a bottle. The first couple of times were really hard. She screamed bloody murder for the most part. Finally, on day 2 she took it like a champ. Except she only seems to like the bottle if she's laying down in our bed.............

Last night we fired up our grill in preparation for the 4th of July.
We grilled some fish, pineapple, nectarines and hawaiian bread. Everything was good except the fish. It just tasted funny.

Peter and Sadie sometimes play a mimicking game. They make noises at each other. She doesn't usually do it with me, only Peter. It's cute that they have this little thing going together.
Tonite at dinner, Peter and Sadie were mimicking each other and Sadie laughed! OUT LOUD! more than once.
It was so unexpected and exciting, I cried. She would only laugh for him, which made it even more special.

The next thing you know, she'll be saying "hi grandpa."

Here's a little recipe for you.
On Fridays, we get a box of produce from Full Belly Farms. In the weekly newsletter this time there was a recipe for a creamy pesto sauce made with tofu.
There was a huge bunch of fresh basil in our box this time so I tried out the recipe.
It was so good I should have doubled the recipe.
Photobucket
Pesto is normally a combination of garlic, pine nuts, basil, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. It is easy to make and delicious over pasta. I used spicy candied pecans instead of pine nuts just for fun.
2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
1/4 cup pine nuts or walnuts or pecans, chopped
2 cups basil leaves
10 ounces tofu, soft or silken
2 T olive oil
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Salt and Pepper

Puree the ingredients in a blender or food processor with enough oil to provide adequate moisture. Season to taste. This recipe will make about 2 cups.

enjoy!
